2024 Indianapolis 500 Delayed Due to Rain

INDIANAPOLIS (May 26, 2024) - The 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge has been delayed due to rain. The race was originally scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m. ET, but conditions worsened at around 1 p.m. ET, forcing track officials to postpone the start.

Track president Doug Boles said the rain could impact the start of the race, but he hopes to get it started as soon as possible. "We're going to wait and see how the weather develops," Boles said. "If it looks like it's going to be a long delay, we'll make a decision about whether or not to postpone the race until tomorrow."

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 is the first race of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. The 200-lap race is scheduled to be 500 miles around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile oval.
